New To Doer’s thoughts on To Do as a workplace
I started at To Do in events a month ago and now I’m writing about what it’s like to work at To Do and how we at To Do work. So jump in and see if To Do could be your dream job!
WHAT IS IT LIKE TO WORK AT TO DO?
First of all, I want to mention that To Do does events out of pure passion! It’s great to work in a team where everyone is an event professional and we all share a common passion for making events. To Do is also the first place I have worked where everything from induction to procedures is planned and structured from start to finish. However, they are made by organisational professionals and this, if anything, pleases my inner perfectionist 😉
TO DO EVENTS
From the very beginning I have been involved in the production of various events, both in the planning and execution phases, and within the first month I have already done a Halloween event in a shopping centre, decorations for a Christmas event and a side event for Slush: a business seminar for UN Women Finland and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The To Do events are diverse and varied in every way, which I think is a great thing! We always implement tailor-made solutions for our clients, i.e. we think about which things/elements would support the objectives of the event/event, and then we look for the most suitable option to make it happen. Sometimes we get the items/elements ordered from our partner, but sometimes we implement them ourselves from the very beginning. So there are no dull days, and although the main tools we use are a laptop and a phone, sometimes we have a hammer, paintbrush or a ladder at hand.
TO DO TEAM & VALUES
It has also been wonderful to see how the To Do gang has welcomed me into their work community and how the strengths of employees are put to good use in events and work. For me, the meaningfulness of work is important for my well-being at work and working on my own strengths gives meaning to my work. By the way, the values of To Do match my own values very well, which adds to the sense of meaningfulness. We care, we are genuine and honest. We are fair to all our stakeholders and take equally good care of all of them. We also care about our environment and strive to reduce the disposable culture. I’ve already had the opportunity to learn how we minimise single-use items in our production and bring in more sustainable alternatives.
TO-DO APPROACHES
To Do describes itself as “a small and agile company that is fast-paced and cool”; I can fully endorse this. We all get to do everything and it’s been great to be able to do so many different parts of production in such a short time. We work remotely from home, so everyone has the opportunity to build their own working week to suit their own lifestyle, which is definitely a big plus, at least for me. I love routines, but I also get bored easily, so it’s great to be able to influence my own schedule and how the days go. Especially in this dark time of the year, it’s important to enjoy the light of the day outside when it’s possible, and I at least enjoy the extra energy that a day walk brings to my day.
To Do Events has proved to be a very enjoyable employer and I hope to see many more events with this team and develop into a super producer along the way!
